The dish is traditionally served family-style, with everything piled high and ready to be enjoyed with your hands. The combination of smoky, spicy, and savory flavors makes it the perfect dish for a gathering or a fun, informal dinner with loved ones.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs large shrimp, peeled and deveined (with tails on)
  • 1 lb baby potatoes, halved
  • 4 ears of corn, cut in half
  • 1/4 cup Cajun seasoning (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 tablespoon Old Bay seasoning
  • 1 lemon, quartered
  • 4 cloves garlic, smashed
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce (optional)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Boil the Potatoes and Corn: Fill a large pot with water and bring it to a boil over medium-high heat. Add the baby potatoes and cook for about 10-12 minutes until they are just tender. Add the corn and cook for an additional 5-7 minutes, until the corn is bright yellow and slightly tender.
  2. Season the Water: Once the potatoes and corn are done, add the Cajun seasoning, Old Bay seasoning, smashed garlic, and salt to the pot. Squeeze the lemon wedges into the water, then drop the wedges in as well. Stir to mix the seasonings into the water.
  3. Cook the Shrimp: Add the shrimp to the pot and cook for 3-5 minutes, or until the shrimp turn pink and opaque. Be careful not to overcook them.
  4. Drain and Toss: Once the shrimp are cooked, drain the pot, reserving a bit of the cooking liquid if you like extra sauce. Return the shrimp, corn, and potatoes to the pot (or a large serving tray) and toss them in the seasoned broth to coat.
  5. Finish the Dish: Drizzle the melted butter and hot sauce (if using) over the shrimp, corn, and potatoes. Toss again to coat everything in the butter and seasonings.
  6. Serve: Transfer the Cajun shrimp boil to a large platter or spread out on a table lined with parchment paper. Garnish with fresh parsley and additional lemon wedges. Serve immediately with extra napkins, as this dish is meant to be eaten with your hands!

This Cajun Shrimp Boil is a crowd-pleasing, flavorful meal that combines the perfect mix of spice, savory goodness, and fresh ingredients. It’s an ideal dish for a laid-back dinner, especially when served family-style for everyone to dig in and enjoy together.
